Mirror term refers to the fact of maintaining a copy of existing data. For example when we say that one site mirrors another, we mean that the second site is an exact copy of the first one. Another example of mirroring is hard drive mirroring, when the data is written to 2 hard drives simultaneously in order to preserve the data integrity in case of hardware failure.
